40 Nelson Road
New Malden

My name is Rachel Carr and I started This Is Carrt in 2014 when my husband's job moved to Germany and I decided to give up my day job in the city and go with him on the adventure! I had always loved to travel and write, and was also passionate about photography so one day I sat down and mingled all three of them on this website and my Etsy page. I write about a wide range of things like how to cope with airline hand luggage allowances to what to wear to any destination wedding. However, when I write up a holiday destination, there are more often than not a few common themes linking what are otherwise very different places:

1) Food. I love to eat. It structures my day to day life as well as any trip that I go on. I think food is a great way to start to experience a new culture as well as meeting new people.

2) Value. I don't get swayed by places to be seen and clothing to be seen in for the sake of it. I hate being ripped off. Be that by a fiver or by hundreds of pounds. If an activity or an excursion I go on is expensive but an amazing experience, I will still highly recommend it, but won't recommend it simply because it is deemed luxury.

3) Beauty. I love looking at pretty things. They don't have to have a purpose!

Please do follow This Is Carrt on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

The One Where I Went To Soho Farmhouse

Rachel Carr

This week, I was lucky enough to go to Soho Farmhouse with one of my oldest friends Miss. T. Luckier still, we were blessed with sunny weather and warm temperatures that made this country outpost of the Soho House chain even more idyllic than it already is. Set within rolling hills near Chipping Norton, on the outskirts of the village of Great Tew, Soho Farmhouse is about an hour and a half from London and a completely decadent slice of heaven.

A French Weekend

Rachel Carr

At the weekend, I was lucky enough to visit a friend of mine who is living for a short while in the beautiful foot hills of the Midi Pyrenees near the town of Saint Girons. Having been before, it was the perfect destination for me and my burgeoning bump as the littlest things take all the energy from me at the moment. By visiting somewhere I knew well, and with a short flight, any crazy pregnancy worries were allayed, and I found myself flying from Heathrow to Toulouse on a Friday night.

A Weekend Away in Somerset

Rachel Carr

I have just returned from an idyllic weekend away in Somerset as a treat to my husband and I for Valentine's Day as well as the last opportunity we had to go on a baby moon, or rather a last ditch attempt to remember that we love each other before a, hopefully healthy and happy, baby makes us question our sanity through many a sleepless night for the next 20 years. I had suggested it to the husband, and unlike him who would happily spend a weekend watching rugby on the sofa in our home, he was keen for the idea and suggested going to Somerset to see some friends and also visit the town of Wells so he could visit some of the set of Hot Fuzz. This last bit was completely lost on me but I agreed to it thinking I had one in the back pocket for when I want to visit New York and the sets of Sex and The City.

Fairytale Towns in the Harz Mountains

Rachel Carr

I have just returned from five idyllic days in the ludicrously pretty Harz Mountains - a region just south of Hanover. It is a shame I haven't visited them sooner.

Handy Packing

Rachel Carr

Owing to living 800 miles from the majority of my nearest and dearest, as well as having an insatiable appetite for travel, I have become quite adept over the years in the art of hand luggage packing for whenever I go on a trip. In the main, the key is to take layers, neutrals that can be dressed up and nothing that needs an iron. Here is what I take whenever I return to the Big Smoke or go on a city break. I will tackle summer holidays another time - but it is possible to take two weeks' worth of outfits in even Ryanair's hand luggage allowance!

V Day Getaways

Rachel Carr

Whilst Valentine's Day has its drawbacks, it does afford a good excuse for a long weekend break with a loved one or friend! Below are my top picks for people who may have left any last minute gifts to the very last minute, or those who may be in need of a grand gesture, or simply those who want to get away to a great city.
