My name is Rachel Carr and I started This Is Carrt in 2014 when my husband's job moved to Germany and I decided to give up my day job in the city and go with him on the adventure! I had always loved to travel and write, and was also passionate about photography so one day I sat down and mingled all three of them on this website and my Etsy page. I write about a wide range of things like how to cope with airline hand luggage allowances to what to wear to any destination wedding. However, when I write up a holiday destination, there are more often than not a few common themes linking what are otherwise very different places:

1) Food. I love to eat. It structures my day to day life as well as any trip that I go on. I think food is a great way to start to experience a new culture as well as meeting new people.

2) Value. I don't get swayed by places to be seen and clothing to be seen in for the sake of it. I hate being ripped off. Be that by a fiver or by hundreds of pounds. If an activity or an excursion I go on is expensive but an amazing experience, I will still highly recommend it, but won't recommend it simply because it is deemed luxury.

3) Beauty. I love looking at pretty things. They don't have to have a purpose!

Please do follow This Is Carrt on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

Idyllic Andalucia

Rachel Carr

I was incredibly lucky as a kid to be able to spend whole summers at a time in the foothills behind Marbella. Given my childhood was now decades ago, the area had not yet been infiltrated by high heeled orange people, though it was already known as a millionaire's playground. Indeed, the golf course on which our abode was situated was also home to Sean Connery. I have returned every year since my first summer trip there and, despite the obvious changes it has seen, I still love the place. Yes, it can almost verge on tacky in parts, but those parts are few and far between - regardless of what the gossip pages of the Daily Mail may suggest.

Beautiful Brugge

Rachel Carr

At home, in Paderborn, I live an 8 hour drive away from my family and friends who reside in my home town of London. Yes, I could fly, but due to logistics to and from the airport on the continent, my husband and I often choose to get on the autobahn and head west to Calais, and then up to London from Dover. Recently, however, I had the  brainwave to stop off for a couple of nights en route at Brugge. It was one of the best ideas I have ever had. I was overwhelmed by both the beauty and strength of the beer that Brugge provides.

The Magic of St Girons

Rachel Carr

Three years ago, my fellow foodie and travel companion, Miss H, the casting director kindly took me to her family home just outside St Girons - a town about an hour south west of Toulouse. I now rush back as many times as I can manage, every time I am asked. To me, St Girons has just the right mix of climate, people, food and breathtaking landscape that adds up to something quite magical. In this week's Limited Edition Prints, I have tried to capture the romance of the place whilst not over stylising images that then become too twee. I wanted to keep the area's rustic feel, ever pervading French charm and overall warmth that the area inspires in me.
