At home, in Paderborn, I live an 8 hour drive away from my family and friends who reside in my home town of London. Yes, I could fly, but due to logistics to and from the airport on the continent, my husband and I often choose to get on the autobahn and head west to Calais, and then up to London from Dover. Recently, however, I had the brainwave to stop off for a couple of nights en route at Brugge. It was one of the best ideas I have ever had. Recently I was lucky enough to go on a trip to one of my favourite cities in Europe: Barcelona. My partner in crime and I had a wonderful stay and tried to experience the city as a true native. Having both been to Barcelona before, we stayed clear of the tourist traps.
