40 Nelson Road
New Malden

My name is Rachel Carr and I started This Is Carrt in 2014 when my husband's job moved to Germany and I decided to give up my day job in the city and go with him on the adventure! I had always loved to travel and write, and was also passionate about photography so one day I sat down and mingled all three of them on this website and my Etsy page. I write about a wide range of things like how to cope with airline hand luggage allowances to what to wear to any destination wedding. However, when I write up a holiday destination, there are more often than not a few common themes linking what are otherwise very different places:

1) Food. I love to eat. It structures my day to day life as well as any trip that I go on. I think food is a great way to start to experience a new culture as well as meeting new people.

2) Value. I don't get swayed by places to be seen and clothing to be seen in for the sake of it. I hate being ripped off. Be that by a fiver or by hundreds of pounds. If an activity or an excursion I go on is expensive but an amazing experience, I will still highly recommend it, but won't recommend it simply because it is deemed luxury.

3) Beauty. I love looking at pretty things. They don't have to have a purpose!

Top 10 Honeymoon Destinations

Rachel Carr

One's honeymoon is a crazy excuse to indulge your biggest travel dreams - be they heavily based on ludicrous levels of luxury or an action packed adventure. Below I've listed 10 destinations that I think tick lots of different boxes for lots of different types of people! Enjoy and salivate in equal measure.

One of many idyllic spots in the Maldives

1) Maldives

The Maldives continually top all travel agents' most popular honeymoon destination lists for good reason. The epitome of paradise with an overwhelming amount of resorts on offer, the turquoise blue sea, white sands and secluded islands are a marriage made in heaven for honeymooners.

Sandy Lane Hotel, Barbados

2) Barbados

This glamorous yet chilled out Caribbean island has something to suit everyone. If your idea of heaven is lying on a white sand beach with a cocktail in hand, this is an ideal destination with its wealth of resorts. If your idea of a good holiday is a bit more active, there is plenty to do on the island in the form of surfing, scuba diving, rock climbing amongst many other options. (Rum tasting being my personal favourite)

Post Ranch Inn, California. The sunsets come for free with the five star nightly price tag.

3) California

A road trip around California is a fabulous idea for a honeymoon due to the breadth of activities on offer across the vast state - all with a beautiful backdrop. There are wineries a plenty, some of the widest beaches I have ever been privy to, national parks that would spell bind the laziest of hikers and some great cities for American culture. California also offers so many different types of boarding to appeal to all - from cheap airbnb, through twee Bed and Breakfasts to fully blown five star hotels.

Grace Santorini, Santorini

4) Santorini

One of three European destinations on my list, this idyllic Greek island emanates romance from its every pore. With its winding cobbled stair cases, chic boutique hotels that are built into the hillside, and the sea a deep blue everywhere you look, it would be hard not to fall in love with your partner even more on this picturesque isle.

Stunning South Africa

5) South Africa

South Africa is a fab destination for those getting married in winter and wanting some sun on their honeymoon. It also offers both great beaches and second to none safari all with a varying array of hotels - from hostels to opulent, pinch yourself five star luxury. Also, if you are heading there from the UK, it is only two hours ahead which helps with jet lag and getting your honeymoon off on the right foot.

The famous Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik

6) Iceland

I never thought of Iceland as a honeymoon destination until I met an engaged couple this weekend - hence the inspiration for this blog post! But it's a fab, albeit expensive, idea given the influx of quirky design hotels. It's also a great option for couples who either want something a bit different to the norm or simply a location that neither have visited.

The Springs Resort, Costa Rica

7) Costa Rica

The eco tourism capital of the world, Costa Rica is yet another great option for couples   that need both sedentary and active things to do to be kept amused. With its glorious beaches and spectacular sunsets, those who don't like to burn many a calorie on holiday will be very happy here. Yet with ziplining, surfing and canopy top exploring to take part in, those with constant itchy feet will also have their every need met.

Tuscany's famous cypress trees and landscapes.

8) Italy

For a European destination, Italy can actually be a surprisingly expensive as luxury resort prices quickly offset cheaper flight costs to its many airports. However, with its Italian charm and beauty, it is quintessentially romantic and a perfect idea for those who may not have quite as long to spend honeymooning than those that go further afield. There are a whole host of areas that will appease any newlyweds, though for me, Tuscany with its Cypress trees, rolling hills and swathes of culture will always have my vote.

The Oberoi, Lombok.

9) Lombok and Gili Islands

Just off Bali, this collection of islands are simply stunning. Whilst they are perhaps the most difficult spot to get to on my list, they will not leave you disappointed. The Gilis, given that they are car free, are fairly chilled out and give a small insight into what Thailand would have been like in days of yore. If you need a little bit more going on, Gili T and Lombok are the islands to head for. Lombok in particular will be perfect for honeymooners wanting the most luxurious of five star service and amenities.

The Chedi, Muscat, Oman

10) Oman

With a breadth of five star resorts that are under 8 hours away from London, Oman is an ideal destination for those who love a little bit of culture mixed with opulent luxury and indulgent, ever attentive service.  Warm to exceedingly hot all year round, it is also perfect for those who want sun but are pehaps getting married "off season". If my husband and I ever do anything like renewing our vows, this is where we will head to for our post party treat.
