My name is Rachel Carr and I started This Is Carrt in 2014 when my husband's job moved to Germany and I decided to give up my day job in the city and go with him on the adventure! I had always loved to travel and write, and was also passionate about photography so one day I sat down and mingled all three of them on this website and my Etsy page. I write about a wide range of things like how to cope with airline hand luggage allowances to what to wear to any destination wedding. However, when I write up a holiday destination, there are more often than not a few common themes linking what are otherwise very different places:

1) Food. I love to eat. It structures my day to day life as well as any trip that I go on. I think food is a great way to start to experience a new culture as well as meeting new people.

2) Value. I don't get swayed by places to be seen and clothing to be seen in for the sake of it. I hate being ripped off. Be that by a fiver or by hundreds of pounds. If an activity or an excursion I go on is expensive but an amazing experience, I will still highly recommend it, but won't recommend it simply because it is deemed luxury.

3) Beauty. I love looking at pretty things. They don't have to have a purpose!

Please do follow This Is Carrt on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

The 12 Best Little Black Dresses Available to Buy Now

Rachel Carr

It's that time of year when we have more invitations to parties than we know what to do with. I don't know about you, but I always find it difficult to find something to wear for these occasions unless I have a fail safe dress in my wardrobe. I've found twelve little black dresses available to buy now - for a range of budgets - that will see you through this party season.

Alexander McQueen, £2075, Net A Porter

Possibly the ultimate (long) black dress. Can you imagine anything more elegant than this? Eye wateringly expensive for mere mortals, but it certainly won't date so there's years of wear in a dress as stunning as this.

Burberry, £1495, Selfridges

Sophisticated enough to see you through a day at the office as well as the annual Christmas party - the high neck on this velvet jacquard number is incredibly demure, whilst the semi sheer sleeves keep the overall look feminine.

Jonathan Simkhai, £570, Matches Fashion

An eternally feminine shape, the fishtail skirt is also universally flattering even for large hipped girls like me. Showing off the shoulders as well, this simple design will allow the wearer to shine.

Reiss, £350

This sparkly number from Reiss shows that even head to toe sequins can be impossibly chic. Whilst quite expensive for even a high end high street shop, you will be wearing this dress for years to come thanks to its simple shape that lets the luxe material do the talking.

Self Portrait, £320

The label of the moment is luckily not exorbitantly expensive and this chic black dress will stand the test of time. Worn by even the Duchess of Cambridge, Self Portrait has become known as the go to for feminine dresses with an edge.

LK Bennett, £221 (reduced from £295)

LK Bennett's flirty and feminine take on the LBD is already in its sale - just in time for those that have already spent too much this December. The star of this dress is the strappy back - a detail that can take this dress into a few seasons to come with the right accessories.

Warehouse, £125

This midi dress with sleeves is perfect for those that like to cover their shoulders. The A Line shaped skirt is ultra flattering for all and will give even the straightest of figures a waist.

Coast, £95

A quietly sexy option from Coast, this dress will be the back bone of any evening wardrobe for as long as your figure will let you - making the £95 price tag exceptionally good value.

French Connection, £90

Another feminine and flirty number, this time from French Connection, it will hide a multitude of Christmas sins by floating over the tummy and hips. Wear with the highest heels possible to ensure a head turning outfit.

This black fitted lace dress from the Swedish giant, is sexy without showing too much flesh - so it is suitable for even Christmas Eve drinks with the Mother In Law, without having to wear a black sack.

Tu, Sainsburys, £14

Whilst not the dressiest of dresses on my list, it is certainly the cheapest. And also one that has the most uses. Its tunic shape means that tights and flats also make this dress capable of a day at the office, whilst sparkly accessories will take it to even the most decadent of parties.

Miss Selfridge, £30

I remember the days when Miss Selfridge was my first port of call for any party dress. Years later, this velvet asymmetric LBD makes me wonder if I ever needed to change my tack. The hip skimming skirt and luxe fabric could charge much more than the bargain price.
